Sir jack falstaff
The way that Orson
Welles described Jack Falstaff in his show is very accurate. Falstaff
is a lazy man who is a drunk and does not have a care in the world and is
always looking for a good time. He is fat, old, and dirty and all he does is
eat, drink, and steal. He is Hal’s best friend and although he is a bad
influence on him, he is in a way a father figure to Hal. "Didst thou never see Titan kiss a dish of butter - pitiful - hearted Titan! - that melted at the sweet tale of the sun's? If thou didst, then behold that compound" (ii.iv.102-104). Falstaff and Hal's relationship is different from other friends ships in the sense that they are always making fun of each other and pranking each other. I think that this relationship shows a lot about Falstaff, how everything to him is a joke and he does not know how to appreciate things in life. Without having Hal as a companion , Falstaff would be nothing but a old drunk. Overall, Falstaff is a different character and Orson does a very good job of depicting his unique persona.
